The origin of Roditis holds a small mystery. Some believe it takes its name from the island of Rhodes, while others argue that it derives from the Greek word rodon ("rose"), referring to the pinkish color of its skin. Whichever theory is correct, Roditis is one of Greece's oldest grape varieties, with a history dating back to the Classical era.
